Curb Weight Database

Curb Weight Database

Cash 4 Cars Cleveland has compiled a new automobile curb weight database available for sale beginning July 21, 2014.  This data project has been completed; however, we are hoping to sell it to one organization and simply retain a copy for internal/personal use by Cash 4 Cars Cleveland. The database will initially be offered for sale to several popular automobile sites. If one of these sites wishes to purchase the database outright, then they will have exclusive ownership of it. If such a sale does not occur, copies of the database will be available for ‘per copy’ sale beginning on July 21st by automobile recyclers, vehicle scrappers and/or “cash for car” buyers.

What is the benefit of the vehicle curb weight database? First, what is a vehicle’s curb weight? Curb weight is defined on Wiki as “the total weight of a vehicle with standard equipment, all necessary operating consumables (e.g., motor oil and coolant), a full tank of fuel, while not loaded with either passengers or cargo.” Merriam-Webster confirms this description in their definition. (See: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/curb%20weight) When scrapping an auto body the curb weight is the critical determinant to the amount you are paid for the junk car, scrap car or non-running vehicle. Knowing and confirming the scrap car’s curb weight is a critical step in the business of scrapping junk cars. Often, “cash for car” buyer’s use contracted assistance for removal of junk cars and are not physically present when the scrap yard purchases the vehicle. When a buyer of junk cars or scrap cars knows the scrap price for the body of the vehicle, based on the weight, there is assurance of no “under reporting” of what the junk vehicle was worth at the junk yard or car crusher. Obviously there are numerous variables that you cannot control with regards to employee or contractor theft among those picking up and transporting vehicles. Was the catalytic converter present, or was it already removed? Did the vehicle have aluminum wheels? These are two examples that, without being present, you have minimal control over. The curb weight database allows you to confidently know the value of the auto’s body. It is particularly important to insure you will obtain a minimum or “base-line” profit margin on each junk car, scrap car or damaged vehicle that is purchased.
