In the October 13, 2015 edition of floridatoday.com an article titled ‘Satellite High auto team receives a clunker to fix up’ which was composed by Jessica Saggio with the following information: “A 2000 Chevy Impala rolled up and the students burst into applause, while examining their new set of wheels. Over the next six weeks, the team of students will take the old clunker and restore it for a US-wide vehicle competition.  Satellite HS beat out four other schools in the state to participate in the Quaker State Motor Oil ‘Best in Class Challenge’ The nationwide challenge calls for automotive students to customize a pre-owned car into a creative representation of their school, according to a release from Quaker State. The Impala’s value is around 3K and each school participating will be given a r vehicle to revamp.

There was no stereo, there is a blinker in the trunk and the door locks don’t work. The air conditioning fans were running, but it needs a charge. Part of the competition is that the students must improve the car’s horsepower, so the starting point is a pivotal measurement, explained James Johnson, a career and technical education resource teacher for Brevard Public Schools. Now that the students have their vehicle, they will immediately get started. A $2,000 AutoZone gift card will be given to the team to spend on components.  The group has until Nov. 18 to customize the car.
